Martha is an insolvency Manager in Grant Thornton’s Specialist Services (‘GTSS’) practice in the Cayman Islands. On completion of her degree in Accounting and Financial Management with the University of Sheffield, Martha joined Grant Thornton Cyprus and thereafter qualified as a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (“ICAEW”).
Martha has 6 years’ experience in insolvency and 1 year of Assurance and Advisory experience. She has also successfully completed the INSOL International Foundation Certificate in International Insolvency Law.
Since joining Grant Thornton, Martha has demonstrated her skills and collaborative energy through participation in Grant Thornton’s business and professional development initiatives, having worked on a cross jurisdiction project to foster new business opportunities between Grant Thornton’s UK and Cyprus practices. Additionally, Martha was elected to join GTSS for a 6-month secondment, resulting in her joining the Cayman Islands team permanently in June 2020.
Martha is defined by her strong spirit and determination and competencies that assist her to be motivated and focused. Her adaptable nature allows her to prioritise and work under pressure across a multi project workload. Her outgoing and sociable character and her sensitivity to client requirements builds strong working relationships. Experience
- Martha worked on the voluntary liquidation of the national flag carrier airline of Cyprus established in 1947, with creditor’s claims in excess of $120m.
- Martha has experience on numerous bank appointed receiverships, court appointed liquidations and a court appointed receivership of a deceased’s estate with assets in Cyprus and Greece worth c.$35m.
- Martha worked on the $300m+ fraud claim against a financial institution in Saudi Arabia, being a Cayman Islands based structure with litigation proceedings in London.
- Martha worked on a rare personal bankruptcy assignment in the Cayman Islands with multiple international jurisdictions.
- Martha has experience in working in the liquidation of a Trinidad entity with liabilities totalled approximately $4.2 billion. Her work involved monitoring the value held in direct and indirect assets of the Company, complying with statutory matters, overseeing and assisting subsidiaries and general investigation work.
- Martha worked in a fixed charge receivership appointment, pursuant to a $50 million facility agreement of a Dubai bank, over limited partnership interests held by the security provider. This involved obtaining and reviewing the books and records pertaining to the limited partnership interest in identifying and considering any potential competing claims and other interests in the limited partnership interest, as well as assessing the financial position and realisable value.
- Martha has experience in working on a multi-jurisdictional engagement, with approximately 580 investors combined across the Group. This involved he provision of liquidation services to the General Partner, being the appointed liquidator of the limited partnerships within the Group.
