Hoonjae earned his certified public accountant qualification in New Jersey in Aug 2000. Since then, he has worked in the insurance sector, both in professional practice and industry for over 19 years.
Experience
He joined Grant Thornton (Cayman) LLP in July 2024 after obtaining valuable industry-specific experience from US multinational insurance operations supporting all aspect of tax reporting for P&C and Life / Retirement business segments. Before moving to the Cayman Islands, Hoonjae completed his MS in taxation and BS in accounting in 2000 and 1996 respectively and obtained significant US corporate taxation experience at large accounting firms and multinational US corporations.
Industry experience
During his time in industry, Hoonjae managed US tax compliance and reporting for various foreign insurance companies including controlled foreign corporations and §953(d) entities. He has extensive experience in tax accounting reporting under US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and International Financial Reporting Standards for all sizes of companies. Hoonjae also managed tax due diligence and regulatory reporting reviews on insurance business combinations.
